A New Transport Plan for Dartford
Whether it’s being stuck in traffic gridlock or being left on a platform by a cancelled train – too often it seems like Dartford isn’t moving. We need that to change – we need a plan to get Dartford moving again. The Conservatives have simply buried their heads in the sand while congestion on our roads has got worse. That’s bad for residents, bad for our local businesses – it’s bad for Dartford.
That’s why a Labour Council in Dartford will begin to tackle our traffic and transport issues. We can’t fix everything overnight or do it alone – but unlike the Conservatives, we believe there are things the council can and should be doing to help. We need to get Dartford moving.
The Conservatives’ traffic plan launched in 2011 has clearly failed to deliver the improvements we need. In fact, many residents tell us that they feel the roads are in worse condition than ever before and that traffic gridlock is becoming a regular occurrence. We need to get Dartford moving with a new plan that addresses the issues that face both motorists and pedestrians getting around our town.
With thousands of new homes being planned for Ebbsfleet and Eastern Quarry and the Paramount London development, we desperately need to enhance our transport infrastructure. That’s why Labour will work to extend Crossrail to Dartford and to ensure that better transport is at the heart of the Paramount discussions. We’ll fight Dartford’s corner.
Dartford deserves better than to be stuck with gridlock. Labour will get our town moving again.
A Labour Council Will…
Deliver a new traffic plan for Dartford
Working with the MP, Kent Highways and the Department of Transport we’ll deliver a better plan for motorists and pedestrians, focusing on how we can ease the chronic congestion currently afflicting our road network and to seek solutions to the many parking problems across the borough.
Work to bring Crossrail to Dartford
We’ll also make the case for better transport links to London Paramount, to avoid Swanscombe and other areas getting swamped by traffic.
Promote more cycling use
by extending safe cycling provision across the borough and working to upgrade the existing cycle routes that the Conservatives have allowed to fall into disrepair.
Give residents more say
over local bus services.
Continue to oppose a new lower Thames crossing
being built in Dartford.
