Building stronger communities

Supporting Our Community Groups

One of the very best features of Dartford life is our vibrant and growing volunteer community. From Men’s Shed to local litterpicking groups, from community journalism to our local arts networks – our volunteer groups contribute a huge amount to civic life in the borough.

That’s why a Labour Council in Dartford will embark on a major programme of support, promotion and funding to help our community groups do what they do best – bringing people from all walks of life together to make our borough a more vibrant, cohesive and welcoming place to live.

And we don’t want to just stop there. Labour will launch a new Dartford Community Fair to promote new, as well as existing community initiatives and we’ll promote volunteering opportunities throughout the borough.

A Labour Council Will…

Promote the work of our community groups

by launching a Dartford Community Fair that will give local community, voluntary and charitable organisations an opportunity to showcase their work and promote their work.

Promote opportunities for residents to support community work

by introducing council sponsored volunteering schemes; a skills swap service and a ‘time bank’ service.

Better use council funding to support community projects

by reforming the councils secretive ‘identified initiatives reserve’ and ensuring there is a clear and transparent source of funding for our local community groups.

Give our community groups more say in the work of the council

by introducing more opportunities to play a role in the policy making process.

An Arts Plan for Dartford

The arts in all their forms have a vital role to play in the re-generation of our town centre and the future cultural and economic prosperity of Dartford.

We believe that everyone should benefit from the value of the arts and that’s why a Labour Council in Dartford will be committed to ensuring that support for the arts is developed. Supporting one off events can only achieve so much.  Labour will develop a lasting arts plan for Dartford, working with local arts groups to focus on innovation & excellence in the arts to re-invigorate our town landscape.

A Labour Council Will…

Put the arts at the heart of our plan for renewal

by launching an arts plan for Dartford. Labour will work with local artists to guide our arts strategy as we transform Dartford into a town where artists can thrive and the arts is a central part of civic life.

Give Dartford Arts Network a role in our town centre re-generation plans

We will ensure the arts development takes its place alongside other high street renewal projects.

Celebrating Our Cultural Heritage

Dartford has a rich artistic and cultural heritage, which the current Conservative administration has not done enough to promote. In particular, we should do much more to celebrate our 20th century history, The Rolling Stones, Peter Blake, and Vox.

A Labour Council in Dartford will ensure it does all it can to promote and celebrate our recent cultural heritage.

A Labour Council Will…

Promote Dartford’s rich artistic and cultural heritage

by exploring schemes that provide education and promotion Dartford’s rich cultural heritage and use these to boost the profile of the borough to visitors and businesses.
