Health Services

Health Services

In 1998 the Labour Health Secretary of State, Alan Milburn, came to Dartford to open the new Darent Valley Hospital which brought together under one roof and improved hospital services previously scattered over three sites.

A few years later the Minor Injuries Unit at Gravesham and, only just recently, the walk- in surgery on the borders of Swanscombe were opened to increase local capacity. Darent Valley Hospital has become a top 3 star hospital where waiting times have been virtually eliminated for patients waiting to see a specialist. These achievements are now threatened by an extremely expensive and deeply unpopular reorganisation of the NHS being planned by the Tory-led government which will drain our local health services of extra resources at a time when they are already under threat from the cuts, despite their claims that the NHS was “safe with them”.
