Is Great Queen Street in East Dartford the worst street for unrepaired potholes in the whole of Dartford? In just a short space of 100 metres along this busy street in Newtown between Little Queen Street and Colney Road you will find over 20 potholes and there’s even more along the rest of the road! This revelation comes shortly after a survey carried out by the AA branded Dartford’s roads as among the worst in the country (see Dartford Messenger Jan 27 2011).
Local Labour Councillor Dave Baker said, “The road is deteriorating by the day. Resident’s cars are being damaged by stones being thrown up where the road surface has crumpled and large holes have opened up. There can’t be a worse road in the whole of the borough. Kent Highways don’t seem interested in looking after local council taxpayers.”
Cllr Geoff Prout, Leader of the Labour Group on Dartford Borough Council, said,
“So much for the claims of KCC councillors that this year an army of specialist firms had “hit the ground running” ! Months after the bad weather has passed, roads in Dartford are still full of potholes and motorists are suffering from the failure of Kent Highways to sort out the problems. Extra funding was given to KCC last year by the Labour government to repair our roads but nothing is forthcoming this year.”
