Yesterday, George Osborne delivered a smoke and mirrors spending review that spelt bad news for Dartford. Instead of tacking the key issues facing our community, we got a combination of U turns and further cuts that won’t move Dartford forward – it will simply leave working people worse off and fails to address the big challenges on housing, public services and transport infrastructure that need to be tackled to provide a secure and prosperous future for Dartford.

6,500 children in Dartford could be pushed into poverty as a result of the Conservatives tax credit cuts. That's the verdict of the Children's Society who have warned of the impact should the government carry out the their threat to cut tax credits. Labour has been pressing the government to think again on their plans – which will see families will lose on average £1,300 next year.  We are opposed to the changes – they are unfair and will reduce the household income for thousands of working families in Dartford.

Kent County Council has recently secured funding to convert all of its street lights to LED technology. LED’s are significantly more efficient than the existing lights. 

Labour in Dartford welcome this move – we made the case for it during last years ‘Street Light Switch Off’ scheme which was trialled in many areas of Dartford.
