"The news that Robin Cooper, the Chair of the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation has left after just five months in the role is concerning. Ebbsfleet Development Corporation are the body that going to oversee the construction of Ebbsfleet Garden City.
The new Garden City has the potential to provide huge benefits for the local area – but as the plans are developed, local people want to know that their concerns will be listened to and their voice will be heard. The news that the Government now wants the new chair to be someone with “fewer close connections to the county” will do nothing to reassure residents that this will be a development will prioritise the delivery of housing for local people and benefits to our community. Robin Cooper was someone who recognised the importance of affordable housing for local people being a key element of the new Garden City. We hope his successor - and the government - are ready to show the same commitment.
It’s now important that the government and Dartford's Conservative MP act quickly to end any uncertainty, provide clarity for residents as to the reasons for Robin Cooper's departure and the impact on the future of the Garden City project."
