How to register to vote

Over the last few weeks, Labour in Dartford has been doing all it can to raise awareness of the impact of the introduction of Individual Electoral Registration – in the press, on social media and on the doorstep. Many people may find they have lost their vote as you must now register as an individual, not as a household.

We have been encouraging everyone in Dartford to make sure they are not one of the missing million voters by registering to vote at  It only takes three minutes and it’s not too late to register if you haven’t yet done so. The deadline is this Friday November 20th and don’t forget, if you don’t register to vote, not only will be not have your say, you might end up with an £80 fine too.

We want be to as clear as possible about this, because it seems the Conservatives in Dartford are getting a bit confused.  A couple of weeks ago they criticised Labour – accusing us of ‘scaring people’ when we raised awareness of voter registration. This week, they are publishing similar information. A couple of weeks ago, the leader of the council told residents “there is no deadline” but this week the council has sent an email to residents stating “Time is running out to register”. Mixed messages? You bet! Maybe political sniping is more important than getting the message across.

So – don’t be confused – be clear! If you’ve not yet registered  at please do so before Friday 20th November. Make sure your voice continues to count.
