Swanscombe Labour are disappointed that the Residents Association decided to go ahead with introducing charges at the Grove Car Park despite not properly consulting residents.
Earlier this year, when the Residents Association proposed to introduce these charges, Swanscombe Labour petitioned against the charges with support from hundreds of local residents. However, they were still introduced after a consultation in which many residents were unaware of due to the poor means in which it was conducted.
Claire Pearce, former Labour County Council candidate for Swanscombe & Greenhithe and Swanscombe Labour campaigner commented on the poor consultation run by the Town Council:
It was only open for a month and I only know two people who have filled it in.
We decided to start the petition to see what public feeling was like. Businesses have been really supportive and we are grateful to the nearly 300 local residents whom signed the petition.
Swanscombe Labour will continue to listen to local residents all year round on different issues.
