The proposal to close Dartford’s post office in Hythe Street and downgrade the service to a franchise in WHSmiths is bad news for Dartford.
Local people are rightly concerned that the WHSmiths store in Dartford is not adequate to meet the needs of Post Office users, particularly the disabled. The shop is small, lacks automatic doors for access and crucially does not have the disabled parking the current location has. It’s also a hugely worrying time for the hard working staff whose jobs may be under threat.
The loss of the Post Office will be another blow to our already depleted high street and potentially will be another empty shop, among several others that already litter the town centre. Dartford deserves better.
The post office is an important part of our town. People use the Post Office and then visit the market, shops and cafés. If the post office closes it could have a hugely damaging impact on Dartford town centre.
That’s why Dartford Labour Party are fighting this closure and why we stand shoulder to shoulder with post office customers, post office staff and their trade union. Together, we can save Dartford Post Office. Add your voice to the campaign by signing our petition below today.
